What a way to see the mountains – on a mountain bike. 
Biking the trails of Old Forge can be an exciting and unique way to enjoy the natural beauty that abounds in this area. 
Old Forge and the Central Adirondack area offers biking trails with a variety of terrain and degree of difficulty. 
Slip on a knapsack, put on your biking shoes and take a ride through rich green forests; stop and take a dip in crystal clear lakes or just pack a lunch and picnic with family and/or friends. Hop aboard the Adirondack Scenic Railroad, ride the train into the wilderness and ride your bike back to town. A trip you can't beat. 
Your level of riding skill is no matter; there is a trail that's right for you. Spend a day enjoying the great Old Forge outdoors on a mountain bikeand experience the ride of your life.

And for the adventerous thrill seeker, the Old Forge/Inlet region offer three sanctioned bike races each year. The Mountain Bike Challenge takes place on the Old Forge trail system and is a NORBA sanctioned race.

The Black Fly Challenge takes place in Inlet NY (10 minutes north of Old Forge) and is one of the longest races in New York State.

Just A Few Trails 

Old Forge Mountain Bike Trail system
Over 100 miles of scenic mountain bike trails of all levels of riding ability.  Host to the Annual Mountain Bike Challenge, a NORBA sanctioned race with events for beginners to pro.  Contact The C.A.A. for info. 315-369-6983. 

Black Bear Mountain  
Trail #35. 4.5 Miles. Access is on Uncas Road. Fairly flat terrain. Near Black Bear Mt., trail narrows and is more difficult. At base of Mt., steep to ride but short hike to summit. Excellent view of 7th lake.  

Razorback Pond  
Trail #14. 1.9 miles. Access at Razorback Pond-Silver Lake Trailhead on the West side of the Twitchell Lake Road next to Twitchell Lake. Short one-way trip past Silver Lake and ending at Razorback Pond. Note: Trail crosses some private land.  

Safford Pond  
Trail #17. 4.5 miles. Northern access is the Safford Pond Trailhead on Big Moose Road; Southern trailhead is on Ronaxe North Shore Road. Trip follows snowmobile trail which connects Big Moose Lake and Lake Rondaxe. (A 16.5 mile loop is possible using County Route 93, Rt. 28, and the Big Moose Road.)  

Bubb Lake/Moss Lake Loop  
Trail #28 & # 29. Loop, 6 miles Trail begins 1 mile north of Big Moose Road. Easy flat terrain. (Popular with hikers.)  

Nelson Lake/Remsen Falls  
Trail #78. 4.5 miles. Trailhead is at Nicks Lake State Campsite Southwest of Old Forge or from a snowmobile Trailhead on Bisby Road. (One-way distance to Remsen Falls is 3.5 miles; total loop distance is 11.5 miles.) This trip utilizes two snowmobile trails to Nelson Lake and Remsen Falls. The connecting loop is a foot trail.

Also, remember to sign in at all registration boxes, tell someone where you're going and when you'll be back, carry map and compass, stay in control of you bike, wear a helmet and plan your trip ahead.
